Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic versatility earned her praise across many genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson was raised in New York City as the daughter an architect and the owner of a production company. Hunter, the twin sister of Johansson was also born in New York City. As a young girl of just 7 year old, she began making auditions for TV commercials. Soon after she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later took classes at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to further refine her skills. She made her debut as an actor in the film North (1994) aged nine. At eight, she was a part of Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson played the lead role on screen in Just Cause (1995), prior to her breakthrough with Manny & Lo - a story about two sisters, orphans, who manage to escape. The film received praise for her performance in the film as a teen who had a life-threatening accident The Horse Whisperer (1998) and she gained further attention for her role as the cynical teenage who is a solitary Rebecca in Ghost World (2001).
